Courses to Consider
This page offers options on possible courses to take outside your major in order to enhance your skills.
Students are encouraged to be grounded in the use of computers, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and internet access.
Consider taking beginning courses in finance, management, and business communication. Here are some ideas:
- Econ 110, Acc 200 or 201, Stat 221
- OB 347 (Managerial Leadership Development)
- Management Communication 320 Written Business Communications
- and 420 Desktop Publishing and Document Design
Consider acquiring a Business Management minor. This consists of 8 courses, 19 hours, arranged in the following sequence:
- Complete Econ 110, Acc 200 or 201, Stat 221 and Math 110 or 112 or 119
- Then take Bus M 300 (Financial Mgt), Bus M 340 (Marketing Mgt), and OB 320 (Fundamentals)
- Work in Bus M 371 (Entrepreneurial Lectures), or 380 (Executive Lectures), or 382 (Special Topics). See the flow chart available at the Business School.
- Another sequence of courses might be the four OB courses recommended for those interested in a MOB: OB 320, OB 327, OB 333 and OB 347.
These are simply suggestions that will make you more marketable upon graduation. There are of course miriads of options from technical training to the natural sciences. It's a good idea, whatever your interests, to branch outside of one narrow field. Talk to an advisor in the counseling center to find the best options for you.
