Why did you choose to pursue an MSW degree?
I think it's a good goal that is beneficial to many people. We're able to earn a degree that will allow us to serve and support those in the community that are in need of help. Also, there is a need for social workers throughout the country which opens up many professional opportunities.

What are your thoughts on BYU's focus on a spiritually strengthening educational experience?
It's nice to attend a university that embraces my values. I enjoy the ability to openly talk about religion in the classroom and discuss the role it plays in the community.

What are your thoughts on the family experience at BYU?
I feel really close to the other students in my class. We have all been able to get to know each other and share some positive experiences together. I'm sure many of us will keep in contact and support each other throughout our careers.

Why did you choose BYU's Social Work program?
After studying the available programs in the western United States I discovered that BYU has a great reputation for their clinical MSW degree. I applied to five different schools, I was accepted to all and was happy to choose BYU. It is a great education at a great price.

What are your career goals?
I would like to work with adolescents in a socially interactive environment. Eventually I would like to open a private practice.

Tell us about your BYU internship experience(s):
I am currently at Wasatch Mental Health working with the homeless population. I have been able to co-run four groups including Anger Management, Self-Esteem, and two support groups. I also have about 25 clients I see on an individual basis. It has been a good opportunity for me to learn and apply Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, Person-Centered therapy, and Solution-Focused therapy.
