Alumni

Why did you choose to pursue an MSW degree? I wanted to find a meaningful way to use my career to serve others. I found a community in social work with the same goal, and the MSW program gave me the framework and skills to start working towards accomplishing it.

Why did you choose BYU's Social Work Program? The talented and kind faculty got me interested in the program, and the relative affordability made it a no-brainer for me.

What are your thoughts on BYU's focus on a spiritually strengthening educational experience? It was wonderful for me. As someone who wants to stay involved in the LDS church community, I needed a space to wrestle with difficult social issues and work towards finding some peace with things that don’t make sense to me. Finding that space in BYU’s MSW program was deeply meaningful for me.

What are your thoughts on the family experience at BYU? I loved my cohort mates and am glad to stay in touch with them.

How did BYU's MSW program prepare you for your career? The faculty and staff went out of their way to help me gain deep research experience alongside clinical training, and I felt more than prepared for the technical requirements as I entered the research world. I am really grateful for that and feel very lucky.

What are your career goals? Research environmental justice for vulnerable communities as a social work professor.
