Internship Grants

Current MSW graduate students may apply for an internship grant funded by the Marjorie Pay Hinckley Endowed Chair in Social Work and the Social Sciences. Individual grants are available each academic semester (Fall, Winter, and Spring-Summer). These are competitive awards based on financial need, the quality of the internship, and the degree to which the internship helps support the applicant’s academic and career goals. FHSS internship applicants must be in good academic and Honor Code standing with the university at the time of application to be considered for a grant. Students who have previously received an FHSS internship grant may apply for an additional grant. However, these applicants will only be considered for a reduced award and may not be funded at all.

Fall Semester - July 1 by 11:59 PM
Winter Semester - November 1 by 11:59 PM
Spring Semester - March 15 by 11:59 PM

No applications will be accepted or considered after these deadlines.

CRITERIA

  1. You must currently be an MSW graduate student in the College of Family, Home and Social Sciences.
  2. You must have been accepted for an internship before a grant can be awarded.
  3. You must register for internship credit from your major department during the period of the internship.
  4. You must be in good Honor Code and academic standing at the time you apply for the grant and during the internship.
  5. You must commit to complete required report (see below) after completing the internship.

IF YOU ARE AWARDED AN INTERNSHIP GRANT

If you are awarded an internship grant, the funds will be credited to our University account at the beginning of the semester in which you begin the internship. You must complete the internship designated on your application and be enrolled for internship course credit during the period of the internship. After you complete the internship, you must write a 1-2 page report of your internship experience. You must also submit a high-resolution photo of you at your internship. Students who do not submit this report will have their grant rescinded. Submit this report to charlene_clark@byu.edu

APPLYING FOR THE GRANT:

This is a competitive application with limited funds and not everyone who applies receives an award. Thus, it is very important for you to make a case in your application for how your internship and financial need fit the criteria stated in the first paragraph above. All fields in the online form must be completed. Incomplete, missing or inaccurate information may cause your application to be rejected. Poorly written statements will also reduce the likelihood your application will be given serious consideration. Be certain to proof read your application and make sure you have followed all of the instructions before you submit the form. You must enroll for internship credit during the semester you receive a grant.
